Montego Bay features some of the best resorts in all of Jamaica. The turquoise waters, white sands, and flowing drinks make Montego Bay, or MoBay as the locals call it, a favorite destination for travelers looking for a genuine Caribbean experience.

But just outside of MoBay, there’s a hidden gem that we LOVE. The Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton Resort and Spa lies just outside of the tiny Jamaican town of Lucea (pronounced ‘Lucy’) in the Hannover Parish of Jamaica’s north coast. While it may be a 40-minute drive from the airport, the Grand Palladium is well worth the trip.

  1. Stunning scenery

Jamaica’s coastline is a combination of rocky coral cliffs and white sand beaches hidden in lush, green coves. Outside the crowded city of Montego Bay, the Grand Palladium’s beaches are nestled comfortably in the rock coves, providing protection from the wind, shade from the trees, and excellent snorkeling opportunities right from the resort beaches!

With many peninsulas jutting out into the Caribbean Sea, the Grand Palladium has some of the most spectacular views on any resort in Jamaica. Watching the sunset over the ocean with the Jamaican mountains in the background is the highlight of any vacation at the Grand Palladium. If you don’t believe us, the picture accompanying this article was taken at that Grand Palladium on a cell phone camera! No filter! You just can’t find sunsets quite as spectacular as these.

Insider tip: Special occasion? Book a Bungalow! Every bungalow comes with an ocean view.

  1. Large resort with a small resort feel

Out in the country, resorts have the space to spread out. The Grand Palladium has over 500 rooms, but you’ll never feel like you’re sharing your space with 1,000 other people. The rooms are divided up into smaller buildings, each with its own atrium and fountain, giving the property a boutique hotel feel.

With four different beaches to enjoy, the largest pool in the Caribbean, a kid’s area, and an adults-only section with its own bar, pool, and beach, you’ll never feel crowded at the Grand Palladium.

Insider tip: Spend the extra $10 to access the hydrotherapy spa at least one day during your trip. The hydrotherapy pools tend to have very few people and feature a number of excellent amenities. Don’t forget access to the pools come free with the purchase of any spa treatment!

  1. Lots to do

Everyone loves excursions, but sometimes, it’s nice to stay in the resort and just enjoy the laid-back atmosphere for which Jamaica is legendary. During the day, enjoy exercise classes, volleyball tournaments, foam parties, and more at no additional cost! At night, turn up the excitement with beach parties, on-site casinos, night club, and nightly performances.

Looking for something a bit lower-key? Kayaking, snorkeling, sailing, and much, much more are available on-site, free of charge to Grand Palladium guests. Whether you’re spending two days or an entire week at the Grand Palladium, you’ll never be bored.

Insider tip: If you’re looking to enjoy some snorkeling, skip the catamaran and take the smaller boat from Sunset Cove. The extra fee is nominal, and the snorkeling is great!

  1. Great food with lots of variety

The Grand Palladium has no shortage of great food. You could eat at a different a la carte restaurant every night for a week and never have the same thing twice. With seven al a carte restaurants, three buffets, Jerk Chicken hut, and over 7 bars, you’ll never run out of variety!

Best of all, the Grand Palladium is an all-inclusive property! Enjoy Jamaican, Hibachi, Mexican, Indian, Italian, steakhouse, seafood, and more without touching your wallet. There’s always something great to try at the multiple buffets, and there’s even a 24/7 sports bar to keep up with your team and enjoy a late-night snack.

Insider tip: Make a reservation at the hibachi as soon as you arrive. Spots fill up fast, and the fried rice is excellent.

  1. Large rooms

Having some extra room to spread out is always helpful, especially when sandy towels and wet bathing suits are involved. Every room at the Grand Palladium is a junior suite featuring a large seating area in addition to the standard sleeping accommodations. The bathrooms are spacious and include a Jacuzzi tub in EVERY room!

The Grand Palladium avoids the cheesy island decor too. The rooms are beautifully decorated with a retro-modern style. No wicker and palm tree paintings here! While we expect you’ll be spending most of your time enjoying the property, you’ll always look forward to returning to your room at the end of the day.

Insider tip: The Grand Palladium is two resorts in one. The Lady Hamilton side and the Jamaica side. While each side of the resort has the same access to all the restaurants, pools, bars, etc., the Lady Hamilton side has been newly renovated and is closer to the beaches and restaurants.
